Exercise Your Way to Clearer Skin

Sally B's Skin Yummies: Exercise Your Way to Clearer Skin

While we all work out for different reasons, one benefit of exercise we can all enjoy is healthier skin. If you have ever been an athlete or have exercised regularly, then you know what we’re talking about. In our experience, exercise goes above and beyond what skin care products can do for our skin. It gives you a certain glow beyond those healthy looking pink cheeks at the end of a workout.

Exercise – everything from doing yoga to training for a marathon – helps to increase blood flow to skin to help keep it clear and free of toxins. We all know from experience that unhealthy levels of stress can have an unsightly effect on your face, but since regular exercise helps keep stress levels low and balanced, physical activity can also help in this area.

Here are some considerations on how to take care of your skin turning times of excess sweat and influence from the outdoor elements. While exercise is great for our skin, we must also take care of it so it can perform at its very best.

Don’t Sweat the Sweat

Your skin may not look its best during a workout, but that sweat is actually helping you look good later. Sweating allows skin pores to open, which in turn helps any dirt and grime lingering on the surface layer to escape. After your work out, make sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser like our Tamanu Luxury Facial Cleanser to further expunge surface impurities and give your pores a deep clean.

Mind the Elements

All outdoor sports have something in common: all require sun protection, like non-toxic sunscreen, hats, and/or long sleeved shirts. No matter if you’re skiing in the winter or running in the spring, your exposed skin can become burnt, causing free radicals to form and wreak havoc on your skin’s cells and health. Choose a non-toxic sunscreen to ensure that you’re protecting your skin from both the sun and potentially harmful ingredients that too commonly are found in sunscreens.

Sun is not the only element to consider. Wind, especially in the winter, can be extremely drying and damaging to skin. If you find yourself with chapped cheeks, whip up an extra moisturizing B Green Mud Mask using honey and banana. Not only will it help to quickly replenish your skin’s moisture content, but the antioxidant properties of the honey, banana, and green tea will help reverse any damage done by free radicals.

Pack Your Bag

If your workout de jour has you toting a bag, make sure you pack it with skin soothing essentials: Herba Pads Underarm Deodorant to freshen up after a workout, a Lip Yummie to soothe chapped lips, Tamanu Luxury Facial Cleanser to cleanse your face and reduce inflammation, and B Soothed to, well, soothe the minor casualties of sport. For example, repetitive motions endured by swimmers, rowers, or runners can often times cause sports bras or suits to create chafe marks on the skin. Adding some B Soothed to the trouble spot will calm the pain, while protecting it from worse damage. B Soothed can help calm grass burns, small cuts, and blisters, too.

Cheers to a Good Workout

And if you’ve heard us say it once, you’ve heard us say it a thousand times: ensure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated. This keeps skin moisturized so that cells remain healthy. Dry skin can cause skin to loose elasticity, which leads to fine lines and wrinkles.

When you incorporate regular exercise into your health journey, the results are sure to show: not just around your waistline, but your on your face and hair, too.
