Back to School and Skin Health

The back to school season can be just as exciting as it is stressful. Whether you’re hitting the books yourself, teaching, or sending your kids off to school, the new school year brings with it a new schedule, new people, and new experiences. But there is one thing that can remain constant: the health of your skin. Sure it’s going to take the extra effort at first – in the midst of the morning hustle of getting out the door, carpooling to and from practices, or those inevitable late night study sessions – but there are several ways to incorporate skin health into your new, everyday routine.

Here are some tips to keep your skin looking its very best this school year:

  • Don’t stress. Unhealthy levels of stress can affect the appearance of your skin, so make healthy lifestyle choices (think: diet and regular exercise) to keep stress levels low and balanced. Regularly getting to the gym can be tough with school meetings and study sessions, so think about biking to school or walking the long way to class. And when an unexpected stressful moment strikes…just breathe.
  • Get plenty of good sleep. Pulling “all nighters” might seem like the thing to do during the school year, but getting good, restful sleep is essential for proper skin cell and tissue rejuvenation. Achieve restful sleep by clearing your head as much as possible before it hits the pillow. Don’t let your schoolwork or your social media streams be the last thing you see before you fall to sleep. Instead pick up a “for fun” book, chat with a friend, or listen to music to wind down.
  • Invite your friends over for a spa day. Regularly de-stress and pamper your skin with a spa day. Customize a B Green Mud Mask to meet the needs of your skin, use our Moisturizing Body Buff to exfoliate hands and feet, or paint your nails. Taking regular time out for you (and your skin) is a sure-fire way to keep it healthy.
  • Stay hydrated. Dehydration has been known to cause dry skin, dark eye circles, and even acne. Stash a reusable water bottle in your satchel for on-the-go hydration, and instead of caffeine choose herbal tea or coconut water when possible.
  • Cleanse your face morning and night. When you’re on the go, cleansing is a necessary step in your beauty routine to make sure all the dirt and bacteria is rinsed off your face. Consider using our Tamanu Luxury Facial Cleanser. Not only will it keep your skin clean, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce any puffiness and/or redness from a long day.

Creating balance in your new routine may take some time, but it is achievable. Your skin will thank you as you continue to incorporate new and creative healthy lifestyle options into your daily life.
